“Record”Time

I played a song yesterday

and waltz myself to his mind
thoughts rumbling
like a hungry stomach
aching to feed themselves
on the words
that mindlessly
exit mine

I played a song yesterday
and held his hand
as a carpet of goosebumps
covered my arms with notes
reacting to every feeling
that his hands
left on mine

I played a song yesterday
and felt his fingertips
leave imprints
of “I can’t believe this” and
“I miss you’s” and
most surprisingly
“I have missed you’s”

I played a song yesterday
and watched as his gaze
pierced my eyes with
“so much to say”
yet said nothing at all

I played a song yesterday
and walked down the path of
years passed
and felt
emotions tornado-ing
in the air in between us
untamed, moving
and yet so silently
beautiful

I played a song yesterday
and stirred my martini
of yesterday’s, today’s and tomorrow’s
and sipped on the beautiful music
that blend them smoothly
that they flowed in lyrics
I haven’t sang in ages
but still remembered

I played a song yesterday
and it filled the silence
between us
with just the
right amount
of
everything
